Introducing: Jatalika

This past weekend we attended the launch of a new accessory label created by our friend Aimee Kestenberg, an Australian native and recent graduate in Parsons accessory design. The label is called Jatalika, a word that combines the first two letters of the girls' names in Aimee's family (Jade, Tammi, Linda, and Katie, respectively).

"Instinct" is the theme for this collection debut and Aimee, whose star sign is Leo, incorporated many elements of her personality into the line--starting very literally by using imagery of the lion. A Leo is said to be courageous, strong-willed, and confident, all of which can be seen reflected in Jatalika's pieces. We loved the collection's use of exotic skins, gemstones, and custom sculpted metals--can't wait to see more!

Recycled Runway

Check out these pics we snapped at the second annual Recycled Runway show, an event started by two Parsons students who looked to organize the New School's first and only sustainable fashion show. To participate, designers must construct two-third's of their garment entirely from re-used materials. This year's results were amazing, all the designers did a great job! To learn more about the event and its designers, be sure to see Recycled Runway's Facebook page!

Parsons x Shoe Polytechnic @ IRIS

Last night we attended an event held at IRIS shoe boutique, where owner Nicolo Carpani Glisenti and Simon Collins (Dean of The School of Fashion at Parsons) celebrated the debut of shoes designed by Parsons students and constructed at Shoe Polytechnic in Italy!

Parsons Senior Thesis

We were able to drop by the Parsons fashion building to check out some previews of the senior thesis collections. The day is of great importance to the fashion design students, as it represents all of the hard work and knowledge/skill they have acquired over their four years at school. We snapped a bunch of pictures, here are our favorites!

Press Preview @ The Launch Pad Showroom

Yesterday afternoon we were invited to a press preview event held by Dietch Pr at The Launch Pad Showroom in Soho. As they did last fall, Dietch so kindly gave us free reign to photograph (and try on) the newest collections from the great labels they represent--weeks before the clothes hit stores! It was a ton of fun, take a look and tell us what you think!

Fusion Fashion Show 2010!

Last night we attended Fusion 2010, the annual competition between Parsons School of Design and FIT. Some of this year's judges included Nicolas Putvinski (formerly of Project Runway), as well as Damien Nunes and Mary Kate Steinmiller, editors at GQ and Teen Vogue, respectively. The best collection award for FIT went to Mackenzie Sam, while the best collection for Parsons went to Nathan Green. FIT snagged the coveted award for best overall school! You can find the full show on our Facebook fan page. Also be sure to stay tuned for the video!
